4th Grade Supply List

Condit is an AVID Elementary School in 4th, 5th & 6th Grade!

In its 30-plus years, AVID has proven time and time again that, when given a system of rigorous curriculum and strategic support, students can be academically successful. AVID Elementary is a foundational component of the AVID College Readiness System and supports AVID’s mission and vision to provide a comprehensive model of success for all students, from elementary through higher education.

Based on the same learning foundation that underlies AVID Secondary, AVID Elementary is designed to be embedded into the daily instruction of all elementary classrooms, across entire grade levels, to impact schoolwide structures. Like AVID Secondary, AVID Elementary Essentials focus on the four necessary areas to ensure that all students are poised for academic success: Instruction, Culture, Leadership, and Systems.

AVID Elementary incorporates:

Student Success Skills – encompassing communication skills (e.g. listening, speaking, writing), self-advocacy skills, note-taking strategies, critical thinking, and study skills.

Organizational Skills – both mental and physical; students learn to use organizational tools, as well as learn and practice skills around time management and goal-setting.

WICOR Lessons – emphasize instruction on writing to learn, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading to learn in all content areas.

Partnerships – among students, classrooms, grade levels, schools, feeder patterns, families, and communities.

Highlights in 4th grade:

4th grade is a big transition from primary. We are continuing to implement AVID this year. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. “AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.” This mission’s foundation is started in elementary school, and your help in getting your child the supplies needed to implement this program is essential and appreciated. Your child will have the privilege of keeping his/her own agenda, long and short term assignments, lots of rotations, and greater responsibility. At home internet access is ideal as we will be using the internet for research in class, as well as, at home.

We are fortunate to have one to one iPads in 4th grade and will be using them daily as a tool to complete our themes, research, and projects!

This year, we are also happy to provide a new ELA curriculum and are excited to unveil it at our Back To School Night, so be sure to mark your calendar for this important parent-only night on Wednesday, August 29!

Thank you in advance for your support! The AVID program has specific recommendations on how to organize materials, so thank you for limiting the supplies to the ones suggested below.

We are looking forward to another great 4th grade year with your children!
